A: Zumba® is fun, different, and effective. It's been called "exercise in disguise". The variety of moves and music keep it fresh and exciting so you'll never get bored. Many Zumba workouts include dances like the Cumbia, Merengue, Cha Cha, Salsa, Tango, Flamenco, Reggaeton, Belly Dance, Hip Hop and many other aerobic moves. On average you will burn 600-800 calories.
Q: What if I'm not a good dancer?
A: Zumba® is for everyone. The goal is to have fun, keep moving, and get fit. No one is judging your dance ability.
The dance steps are basic steps and are easy to learn. Many instructors will start slowly and then pick up the tempo as the class catches on to the steps. The key to success is repitition, the more you go, the more you'll know!
A: You need to wear comfortable clothing. Your workout clothes should be breathable. For tops, you might want to consider layers you can remove as things heat up. Comfortable shoes are a must! A cross-trainer or a shoe with a smoother sole like dance shoe that allows for moving across the floor are all appropriate. Avoid shoes with deep treads that may restrict your movement.
Q: What should I bring to Zumba® ?
A: Water! You will definitely sweat, so you need to replenish the fluid that is lost. Some people may choose to bring a small towel as well. Most importantly, a positive attitude and willingness to let loose and have some fun!
A: Zumba® Basic is geared more towards the general public. Zumba® Gold targets Active Older Adults, true beginners, or people who are not used to exercising. Although anyone can take a Basic Zumba® class and just bring down or adjust your level of intensity.
